How To Stay Motivated – For Success In 2020

Visualization: A Key To Keep You Motivated

I know this is not the first time you have heard what comes next. Your eyes may even become glossy and your mind foggy with the thought of it. Welcome to the year of vision – 2020! I find this very powerful and motivating to think about when it comes to what is possible for this year! So what does this have to do with how to stay motivated for success in 2020?

What we imagine and visualize becomes reality.

If you would like to learn about a way to develop confidence in the core of your being, check out the video at the bottom of this page.

It may seem like a mystical, magical idea, but trust me, it is the more real than what you see, hear, smell, taste and touch. I am talking about the power of visualization. How is it that simply imagining a thing can make it real? No, we’re not talking about a new spell from Harry Potter, we’re talking about Creative Visualization, which is more science than magic.

Although Harry Potter is an amazing story, and we love to be entertained, this can actually be a good example of what needs to happen for you to get started on your visualization journey.

Think of it this way. When you go and watch a great movie like Harry Potter, you have to willingly suspend your disbelief to the impossibilities entertaining you, or you would be miserable watching it. in a similar way, you must first create a desire to believe what is being shared here… willingly suspend your disbelief..and believe visualizations to be possible.

Visualization means that you’re guiding your thoughts onto a certain path in a certain way to ensure success. While it might seem a little mystical at first glance, there’s some pretty solid science behind it.

Studies have shown that it’s our attitudes that frequently determine our success. In other words, if we think we’re going to fail, we’re indeed very likely to fail. There is a powerful truth to this. What we focus on expands, and we become what we think about all day long.

Just because we do not fully grasp the dynamics of how it is happening, does not mean that it isn’t. Becoming aware of this reality will become very helpful as you start observing yourself more intently when you react to circumstances, or thoughts you have about situations, people, places, and things. You will find yourself being more careful about the thoughts you have about yourself and others.

This too is part of our visualizing, and we will dive more into that.

What we are focused on now is how to create the ideal state of remaining motivated, and having this as our reality all the time. Too often we are not even aware of our state because we are constantly reacting rather than resting in what we visualized. The ideal state we are searching for is a consciousness that is always reflecting the reality we visualized.

Science and experience has proven the importance of a positive mindset. Visualization takes that positivity to the next level and allows you to SEE your success.

How do you do it?

1. Start With Visualizing the Goal

One of my favorite quotes…of which I know many…. “Begin With the End in Mind.” Visualize where you will be at the end of your completed goal. If you’re not sure where you’re going, how can you expect to get there? Even more importantly, if you do not have a burning desire to change, how will you know you want to get anywhere? In this step, you’re going to want to picture what you want or hope to accomplish and have a strong reason… a WHY for the goal. This is the big picture goal, so don’t worry about the details just yet. Right now you’re gaining a direction. Take some time and write your ideas down, this is a great first step.

2. Add Layers To Your Visualizing

Here’s where you get into the nitty-gritty of what you want to do. Once you have your big picture goal, now you can work out the smaller components that make it up. Imagine this goal in the most minute details until you have a clear understanding of what you need to do to get where you want to go. Allow yourself the liberty to enjoy the willing suspension of your disbelief, and visualize the reality as though it were already completed.

3. Expect the Unexpected

I call them ANTS or automatic negative thoughts. They roll in through your mind like an army, and seek to devour the progress or your visualized reality. Just allow these would be obstacles of thought to flow and watch them as you would observe a colony of ants busily working.

These are not your thoughts, but just random sub conscious programming that is seeking to limit your creative ability.  That part of you which does not really desire to willingly suspend disbelief in the possibilities of your visualization.  You’re likely to come up against thoughts like this, and they will stop you in your tracks if you let them.

How do you intend to handle them?

I find it important to know ahead of time that these thoughts are going to show up, and when I observe them, I capture them by immediately entering a state of gratitude, and continue focusing on the reality of my visualized goal. Thankful for all I have, and what is being created for me in this moment of my imagining.

4. See the Success

When visualizing perhaps the most important thing to see in your mind’s eye is your success. Take your goal to completion with all of its steps, including that happy ending where everything has gone exactly right. But here is a key part that you may not hear much about anywhere else.

You must not envision just about your goal…this would just be like daydreaming, and not creative imagining of your goal in reality. Instead, you must envision your goal as something that is already completed… seeing it from the end, and not just about it.

You do this by associating some feeling to your visualizing, that would imply that you had completed your goal.

Here is a simple example … lets say you have a goal of having a new job… instead of just visualizing the details about the new job… you visualize from the end of actually having the job.

What is something that would be happening that would indicate that you already have the job?

This might appear in your visualizing with associating something simple … as maybe a friend walking up to you, smiling, and congratulating you on your new job. This visualizing mixed with the feeling you would have when your friend congratulates you is what would ensure your goal becomes a success.

Of course… only if you continue to persist with believing what you have visualized in spite of all the negative thoughts, circumstances, or naysayers that seek to distract you, or dismantle your belief.

5. Add in Practical Application

In short – practice. Not just in your head, but in the physical world as well. That means rehearsing that speech in front of a mirror before giving it in front of a crowd. Take your visualization and put it to the test. And then go back and revisit your visualization and make adjustments as necessary. Repeat as many times as necessary. Another important key to this success is having fun with this. Visualizing from your imagination is a beautiful gift to practice enjoying.

By using visualization, you give yourself an important edge. That edge translates to motivation. When you’re sure of your success you can’t help but be excited about what you’re doing. What’s amazing is that using that motivation then creates a stronger visualization, creating a cycle of success that is unbeatable. Imagine that!

  1. This is really massive and I truly like every bit of this. Visualisation truly can help one to achieve a lot just like they always say. What you cannot see yourself as, you cannot become. So, visualising the best would always be a means of motivation for one to get to the peak. Thanks so much

    • Thank you for sharing your unique perspective!  I appreciate your inspiration to keep visualizing the best for myself and others.  I know this is going to be a very special year for anyone with this mindset.

  2. Hello Patrick. 2020 is the start of a new decade and an opportunity for me to create a business that would change my life financially. Well, I needed motivation to get it rolling so I want to say thank you for sharing this guide on how to stay motivated for success in 2020.

I have a picture of what I want and where I am going; that’s visualising… This is very important as I have learnt it over the years. Visualisation helps to keep good energies and good vibes alive. Practice makes perfect so I don’t joke with what I have learnt on how to succeed. I do my best to apply them.

So I am very sure success will not be too far from me.

    Peace out!

    • Thank you so much for sharing your insights!  I get where you are coming from.  One of the hardest lessons that I am still learning to practice is both essential and profound.  That there is a reason we are called human beings and not human doings.  Keep visualizing, have fun with it, and enjoy the practice!  I like to say that perfect practice makes progress possible.   Success is already inside you, and a part of who you are.  Sending you Abundance, Peace, and all your wishes fulfilled for 2020!

  3. Many thanks to you for sharing such an awesome article with us .I was looking for such an article right away your article caught my eye and I’m so glad I did. Your article is great for keeping up the success by inspiring yourself in the new year .I saw my friend inspire me through visualization and hold on to success, so I was inspired and your article inspired me again. I will definitely target the wall in your article to inspire myself, See the practical application, see the success, follow these tips and hopefully get good results .And I certainly hope that by using visualization I can get myself to the brink of a breakthrough .

    • Thank you for such caring thoughts!  I was reading your comments and my heart wanted to encourage you to keep going forward with visualizing success that creates a breakthrough for yourself.  Your thoughts reminded me of another important key that has helped me stay focused with having certainty instead of just hope for myself.  Whenever I have observed myself saying I hope I will be, it is really a confession that I Am not already, and it stirs me to declare instead that I Am, which represents a faith filled certainty that whatever I desire is already a reality.  Sometimes I will just spend some time meditating on that idea of “I Am”…  Love, Peace, and Abundance coming your way!  Here is to all your wishes fulfilled in 2020!

  4. Hi Patrick,

The timing of your post is amazing. Having my goals, plans, work schedules for 2020 your post means a lot to me. Thanks for the motivating and inspiring post! This has to be motivating, not only for me but also for many others. Very recently, I learned about the importance of Visualization from Tony Robbins video.

As Walt Disney said… If you can visualize it, if you can dream it, there’s some way to do it.

Once I read, we cannot advance if we cannot visualize the end from the start. So as you mentioned, we need to begin with the end. The information you shared about adding layers to our visualizing is an eye-opener for me. I am determined to implement what I learned from your informative post.

    • Greetings Paul!  Tony Robbins was one of my first teachers on this journey.  We actually were able to enjoy his inspiration live here in Virginia 1 or 2 years ago.  What an amazing time we had!  I also love Disney!  Going there in a couple months actually!  If you are looking to go even deeper with your layers of visualizing … you may be interested in listening to Dr. Wayne Dyer.  He is awesome!  Here is to all your wishes fulfilled in 2020 my friend!  Sending you Peace, Joy, and Abundance!

  5. Many thanks to you for sharing such an inspirational article with us.At first, to me, the topic of Visualization has seemed very mysterious and magical. And this Visualization takes us from that positive to the next level and makes us successful. And given the visuals you’ve given in your article for success with this visualization, and I love reading them, I think these guidelines will make us successful one day. That way I will try to stay motivated for success and i will share this article with all of my family.

    • Greetings my Friend!  Thank you for sharing such thoughtful words.  When we keep feeding our minds with the right information we will experience new realities.  Whenever I hear myself saying I will try, or I will hope… this helps remind me of what I need to do instead of confessing that something is not already as I imagined.  This is an opportunity for me to grow and become even more focused on who I Am being now in the moment.  When I say try… I am always reminded of Star Wars Yoda saying to Luke … “Do or do not, there is no try.”  This always makes me smile…and then I change my thinking about it and become a doer instead of a tryer.. focused on the reality of my imagination.  Sending Peace and Abundance for you and your family in 2020!  May all your wishes be fulfilled!

  6. I don’t know exactly how many times in my life I’ve actually done everything you talk about. I can tell, it works.
You just have to be very clear and precise with what you want.
If you’re not, you get all kinds of things and it keeps circulating until you clear your image.

    Thanks for sharing.

    • Hi Nemanja! I really appreciate your comments. My best state is when I am surrendered, at peace, expressing gratitude, and imagining all the abundance in my life. We have to enjoy being, instead of forcing ourselves to be doing. Although there is always a place and time for action, we learn to rest in the state of being we desire and think about most. There is transforming power to the reality of knowing who and what we desire for ourselves and others. Keep enjoying the journey my friend!
